It has been a few weeks now since the Riverdale Art Walk but I have been too busy to write. What an incredible experience. It was so enlightening to hear how people reacted to my work. I stood just outside my booth so that I was able to hear all comments – both positive and negative…learning from both. I was very interested in how many people did their research ahead of time – checking out the website to see a specific painting. I had many people say “I don’t usually like abstract art – but I really like your work”. Interesting. I wonder if it is because my work is not full abstract but rather an abstraction of landscape and imagery.
A few lessons learned:
- Email Addresses - Make sure people who sign the guest book write legibly. Unfortunately, I had a number of people ask me to follow up and their email addresses bounced back
- Artist Statements – a number of people wanted copies of the artist’s statement – but I did not bring enough copies
Looking forward to the next show – waiting to hear about the Queen West Art Crawl.
