pt where over 700 artists contribute works that all have to be 12” x 12”. They are set up in 2 spaces – the main one being the AWOL Gallery at 100 Ossington Avenue. Paintings are hung in a grid pattern – 8 high around the entire room on a black background. We went to the pre-opening Friday night. This was for the media and other buyers and was a fund-raiser for ISIS Canada . Each painting, regardless of the artists, sells for $200 - $100 to the artists and $100 to the charity.
I submitted 3 paintings – trying a few different techniques: with Butterflies, I used gold foil and added layers of paint over top – I finished in a high gloss finish. Using 7 versions of reds, green/gold and turquoise, the painting was inspired by the butterflies in my garden.
Rain #2 was based on a previous painting that I sold. The sun shining through the clouds on one of those crasy days where it is still raining. The copper beads catch the light like the sun does. This one is larger than the original to fit the format required for this show.
River From Above was a continuation in the river series. It is inspired by Google earth - landscapes when seen from above. As we entered the gallery, it was incredible – overwhelming actually. I made the mistake of moving too slowly as 3 paintings that I liked were snapped up – little red push pins indicating a sale. About 1 ½ hours into the event, I noticed that “River from Above’ had sold – I was delighted. The show is open to the public until September 6th.
